Located on the outskirts of Munich, Germany, the wildlife park is home to hundreds of wildlife animals. On an area of 57 hectares (140 acres), it offers the opportunity to observe native wild species up close all year round.

The park can be reached easily both by public transport, as well as car with enough parking available. The trip from Munich’s city centre takes around 45 minutes on average.

The proximity of the park to Bavaria’s capital reminded us of our visit to the sheep farm almost in the centre of London, the Mudchute Park (click to read).

Founded in 1959 and opened for public 11 years later in 1970, the park is designed so that visitors can safely interact with the animals. The park’s enclosures have been especially designed to resemble the wildlife’s natural habitat and thus best need the needs of the animals.

Thanks to this, the many red deer, fallow deer, roe deer – among others – can roam this huge park. On over 4 kms (2.5 miles) of forest and meadow hiking trails we got the observe also peacocks, geese, and even spotted some beavers.

After entering we had the opportunity to buy small packets of food suitable for the animals roaming around the enclosures. Wildpark Poing also offers a small playground for kids, as well as some seating areas perfect for taking a break after strolling around the park.

Wildpark Poing all-year-round, including weekends. Check out the current opening times here. Ticket prices start from 11.50 EUR per adult, and from 7.50 EUR per child.
