The third movie in the historical drama franchise will see the beloved cast returning to the manor.

Focus Features announced that the third film installment of Downton Abbey will come to cinemas globally on September 12, 2025.

The first movie, simply titled ‘Downton Abbey,’ was released in 2019. The second, ‘Downton Abbey: A New Era,’ premiered in 2022. 

Simon Curtis is returning to direct the third movie, after helming the 2022 release.

Downton Abbey 3 is currently in production in the UK. 

The third movie was written by the creator of the original TV show, and Oscar winner, Julian Fellowes.

Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Phyllis Logan, Robert James-Collier, Joanne Froggatt, Allen Leech, Penelope Wilton, Lesley Nicol, Michael Fox, Raquel Cassidy, Brendan Coyle, Kevin Doyle, Harry Hadden-Paton, Sophie McShera, Douglas Reith, and Dominic West return for the third film.

New cast includes Paul Giamatti, Joely Richardson, Alessandro Nivola, Simon Russell Beale, Arty Froushan, and more.

What is Downton Abbey about?

The British historical drama TV show is set on the fictional Yorkshire country estate of Downton Abbey between 1912 and 1926. It depicts the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their domestic servants in the post-Edwardian era, and the effects the great events of the time have on their lives and on the British social hierarchy.

The TV show ran between 2010-2015 and quickly gained international popularity.
